What can I expect at yOnilates class?
What can I expect when I come to a yOnilates class?
The classes usually contain three sections.
In the first part I share some information about our pelvic anatomy to add to the internal map each person is building up. In some classes participants are invited to share briefly into the circle if they wish.
Then we practice a variety of exercises that focus attention on and tone different muscles within the pelvic bowl. These exercises have been derived from a wide variety of sources. These include yoga, taoist and other ancient traditional practices, Feldenkreis as well as modern physiotherapy, somatic sexology and other strands of scientific research on the pelvic floor. We also use breathing exercises and sometimes dance.
We finish with a guided meditation that supports an energetic connection with our wombspace and her amazing potential.
I also work with who and what presents in the room so in some classes I will bring in practices that I feel will serve specific issues that those who are present are dealing with.
What do the exercises cover: eg physical/mental/emotional/energetic, whole body/part of the body etc?
The exercises support us specifically on a physical, mental and an energetic level but I find the work touches many women emotionally and makes them feel better about themselves.
The classes are conducted in a yoga style environment. We may work standing, sitting on the floor or on exercise balls or we may use mats to lie on. Whilst you are invited to focus on the pelvic area and the specific muscles within there is no nudity. All exercises are optional and within the classes you are always at choice in regards to how you work with the exercises suggested. I actively encourage practicing the skill of listening to and acting on the wisdom of your unique body knowledge. You are advised to wear loose comfortable clothing and enjoy this potent and unusual opportunity to focus loving attention on this core area of the body.
Are the classes suitable for pregnant women?
Absolutely. It is a great help to your journey with pregnancy, birth and beyond to be well connected with your pelvic floor, to understand how to exercise it effectively and to have a good sense of how the bones, muscles and connective tissues of your pelvis are elegantly designed to support your journey to motherhood.
How long is the course?
I offer ongoing classes whenever I am based in a particular area. Currently I am in Oxford in the UK. You may book a single class if space permits although committing to a regular practice is highly recommended.
I also offer one day introductions in areas where I cannot teach ongoing classes. These days will give you the initial information you need to start your own program of practice. Contact me if you would like to arrange a one day yOnilates event in your community.
What type of outcome can be expected
The benefits of regular practice are many - on a physical level, connecting with, toning and isolated the various pelvic floor muscles reduces the likely hood of incontinence and prolapse issues as we age, increases blood flow and sensitivity and sexual pleasure and provides both a physical and energetic sense of stability, power and potency. On a whole person level I find women who are connecting with and appreciating their feminine creative organs start to shine and radiate confidence and femininity. The focus of attention may also bring up issues that are buried however and I encourage women to discuss that with me if it happens. I offer individual sessions in somatic sexology and coaching in pleasure and embodiment as well as a variety of other workshops through The yOniversity

Feedback from yOnilates class participants.
"I left the session with a surprising amount of stuff coming up around this very neglected area yet also quite an unexpected bounce in my step with my head held high, a glint in my eye and in touch with my feminine charm"
"... delicious, informative, inspiring and looking forward to the ongoing sequence"
"It was great!! Thanks for creating such a scientific, safe and organised learning environment"
"Being a young female who felt both emotionally and physically disconnected, I was curious to try out yOnilates. I'll admit I was a little sceptical at first and extremely anxious, but I attended with a positive attitude and an open mind.
During my very first class I was amazed at how quickly I began to feel a connection and at the ease with which I was able to experience a level of comfort, despite giving this often neglected area of myself some consideration.
It was obvious to me from the beginning just how little I knew about my own body - I had no knowledge of these layers of muscles contributing to my 'pelvic floor.'
The anatomy was explained using props, which I found extremely helpful and the information was clear and easy to understand.
The exercises were simple to follow and set to a soundtrack, this helped me to focus and monitor my own progression throughout the 5 week course.
Classes ended with a guided relaxation, providing a very nurturing and spiritual closure to each session.
Laura-Doe has found a beautiful balance within her teaching; educational, fun, relaxing and personal. I believe that yOnilates has helped to heal and create a connection within myself and has provided me with the tools I need to confidently continue my own practice.
I will be highly recommending these classes to all the females in my life."
